Mateusz Kalkowski

kalkowsk4My name is Mateusz Kalkowski. Fishing is the passion of my life. I try to spend every spare moment with a rod or a camera in my hands. It all started with trips with my brother and father (thank you, Dad!) to Mazury Region (Masuria). It is there where my fishing adventure began. I knew at once that spinning was not for me. I did not like and I still don’t the ‘stationary’ fishing. I like travelling and I love to visit new places whenever possible. My brother is my best fishing trip companion. As far as I remember, we have always spent our time over the water together. We both constantly learn from each other, we share our experiences and observations.
Every fish I catch, even the smallest one, makes me happy. I’m most excited when I catch the following fish: the barbell, the chub, the pike, the sander, the catfish, the trout and the asp. They are great sports fish. Since the very beginning of my fishing adventure, I have been advertising the catch & release method. I treat every fish with highest respect.

kalkowski3For almost 15 years of following my hobby, I have seen almost the whole Poland. My favorite fisheries include: the Vistula, the Narew, the Bug and regions at the coast of the Baltic sea. In recent years, I’ve got interested in foreign fisheries, including the Swedish skerries. Every trip abroad is a great experience and wonderful adventure to me.

I fell in love with the Vistula when I first went to fish in it with my brother. The river is untamable and full of mysteries. I love it for its beautiful barbell, asp and catfish. There is nothing better than several-day-long canoe trips and nights spent in the tent over this wonderful river. The Narew and the Bug were the first rivers I fell in love with. I learnt fishing there. I love to fish for the barbell, the chub and the ide in their swift current. Spring swift current is a shelter for careful asp while wild steep slopes have big sanders in deep waters. When I recollect numerous nights spent with the spinning at the Narew and the Bug, I want to be back there at my favorite fisheries at once. My favorite fishing time is the evening and early night.

In the beginning of every season, I’m fond of pike fishing in picturesque little rivers. Wearing a camouflage clothes all over the body, I walk long kilometers over the banks, I skulk and try to catch wonderfully colored trout.
I am the member of the WKS Sandacz club from Warsaw and I belong to the internet fishing community of the www.jerkbait.pl website. Together, we organize fishing events, stocking of Polish waters and we popularize the C&R method.

Angling is something special to me, a wonderful way to spend my fee time. I’m excited when I plan my next trips. Every hour spent over the water makes me more experienced, that’s why I try to be there as often as possible.

Our guide fisheries

Bug river

b1Robust, wild and twisting river. Twists, deep holes and gravel river bed… Can you ask for more? Like wild steep slopes? There are lots of them here. Moreover, these are one of the best angling spots of the Bug river. We specialize in night sander angling. We know places where the chances to catch the prey fish are bigger than anywhere else. Our guides will tell you about the river and show you its best parts.

If you want to hunt for asp, we will take you near the sections of the river which are regulated. We will look for sander in places with loamy bottom, we will find chub in old, shallow overflows. We know the ‘addresses’ to wild shelves – these are one of the best fishing spots.

The choice is yours. We can go to the Bug river in the morning, in the evening, to spend the whole day or night out there. Our guides believe that the Bug is the only river where you can catch sander in summer. This is what makes us unique. We won’t take you to the Vistula river in summer to look for sander because the effects of such expeditions would probably be very poor. But it will be our pleasure to take you to the Bug river. In spring,  we will be happy to look for asp with you.

b2We don’t guarantee that you catch fish, there is no way to do it sometimes… What we do guarantee is that our guides regularly catch fish of your dreams, they know the river and they will do everything to make you feel the weight of the fish running away into the river out of the tip of your angle. We’d love to help you understand the river and we will also teach you the river’s secrets. The range of possibilities is vast and the choice of how the final offer looks like is only up to you and your wishes. Tell us what you want, we will tell you when and how we can fulfill your fishing dreams.

Lupawa river

lupawa1The Lupava is one of the most beautiful if not actually the most beautiful river of the Pomerania region. It’s very differentiated. There are deep spots with calm current intertwined with shallow, ‘mountain-like’ swift current. The bottom of the river is stony and gravelly or sandy, in parts there are rich underwater plants. Trout and grayling live over a long section of the river.

It depends on the time of the year whether one should look for fish on sections with calmer and deeper or shallow swift current with well-oxygenated water. Drake flight is a big attraction of this river. If you are at the river at that time, you mustn’t miss it. The proper approach of the hosts of the fishery (including bigger fishable size requirements, lowering limits to 1 fish daily) made it possible to have good fishing scores all the season long.

lupawa2

The river on our guide’s favorite section is not affected with melioration. Its beautiful wild character has been preserved here. The anglers may spot a lamprey looting on the bottom, a kingfisher watching its prey, or eagles circling over one’s head.

This is the moment one realizes how special this place is. The Lupawa is not a fishery for a fly angler. There are sections of the river accessible for the spinning anglers.

Narew river

n1The wildest of all lowland rivers in the country. At the same time, it’s very special and with fewer anglers than in other fisheries. Our guides know it by heart. Feel invited to trips lasting several hours or all day.

One of the Narew’s biggest attractions are natural shelves. These places are very hard to find for anglers but the fish know very well where the best place is. If we go fishing in the morning, we will start the day somewhere else.

We will look for old horizontal dams torn by the flow. We will fish after chub and asp there. Later, we will wander further on. Deep holes, the characteristic feature of Narew, will be of our interest. This is the real heaven for sander and catfish. Sander can be our goal as well.

n2The choice of a certain spot and kind of fish depends on many factors: the season, the time of the day, water level, pressure… Our guides will provide suitable care in this respect. They will tell you when and what to catch.

Moreover, they also know when it’s better to stay at home because the water level or weather would adversely affect the trip. At times, they won’t want to catch fish, but it will be for your own sake. The Narew is a good catfish fishery. If you want, we may fish all night long.

There is nothing to give you more adrenaline than a strong kick of a sander or when you are catching a catfish when it’s dark and quiet around you.

We don’t guarantee that you catch fish, there is no way to do it sometimes… What we do guarantee is that our guides regularly catch fish of your dreams, they know the river and they will do everything to make you feel the weight of the fish running away into the river out of the tip of your angle. We’d love to help you understand the river and we will also teach you the river’s secrets. The range of possibilities is vast and the choice of how the final offer looks like is only up to you and your wishes. Tell us what you want, we will tell you when and how we can fulfill your fishing dreams.

Vistula river

w4The queen of Polish rivers. Wilde, huge and… dense with fish. We invite you to fishing trips lasting several hours or all-day-long ones. Our main attraction are unforgettable boat trips (it’s possible to stay for a night in a tent). We fish all day and late at night then. What fish can be caught? In theory, all the fish living in this river. Our guides will provide you the right care.

We know places where sander rest at the hill of a vertical dam, asp raven at the verge of the sandy shallowness in the middle of the river, while catfish swim out of the depth for night hunt. We will take you to interesting overflows, wild reefs and other places where prey fish like to be. We also know when it’s worthwhile to go to the river to look for certain fish. We watch the water level, the pressure, the temperature and the weather. We know why it’s good to hunt for ’white’ preying fish in spring, where to fish for asp on a warm spring or autumn day, and where to look for raven spots of the preying fish just before deep water starts. We know when it’s better to stay at home because the water level or even the weather are not suitable for fishing.

w2We don’t know one answer only – what fish you would like to catch? Choose it and we will tell you when and where we could try to catch it. You don’t know yourself what fish you would like to catch? Tell us, when you would like to go fishing. In the morning? Then we may start with the asp. We will try to add our baits to their breakfast menu. You have the whole day to spend on fishing? We will look for chub or ide in racing spots. Or maybe we will fish for barbell, the queen of our river? We may always look for pike in numerous places along the river.

In the evening, we may try to find sander at their night raven spots. How about catfish later on? Or maybe you would like to fish all night long? Nothing gives you more adrenaline than a sander’s strong stroke or a catfish catching the bait when it’s all dark and quiet around. Quiet? Well… how about the sound of ravening fish?

w3We may put up the tent or sleep just at the fire. Shall we fish at dusk? No problem. Later on, we will sail further on or go down to the base. We don’t guarantee that you catch fish, there is no way sometimes… What we do guarantee is that  our guides catch fish of your dreams on the regular basis, they know the river and they will do everything for you to feel the pulsing weigh of fish running away in the river at the top of your rod. You know perfectly well what we are writing about. We will be happy to let you understand the river, and we will teach you to read its secrets.

The range of possible choices is big, and the choice of a certain offer depends on your wishes only. Tell us what you expect, and we will tell you when we may fulfill your fishing dreams.
